Re elodea and hornwort - mine seemed to all die off over winter. Are they annual?
From what I've read they're more like perennials, in that they sink to the bottom and go dormant over winter then get new growth again in spring.

I think my pond may be too shallow for the plants to go anywhere.
My tub is only 36cm deep according to the amazon page, although it seems a little more than that to me, I'd have guessed 45cm.

They say any water at all is better than none!  You'll still be giving the birds somewhere to drink and preen even if the frogs and newts don't use it.

My problem is that I couldn't decide between a bird bath, fountain water feature or a wildlife pond. So it hasn't really succeeded on any of them.

You could always start over?  Why not start a thread with a photo of the area and ask for suggestions?  I bet you'd get lots of ideas.

Well it’s done!  I’ve surprised myself a bit actually, it’s definitely more twee than my usual taste.  Quite happy with it though and will treat the planting as a work in progress.

I keep peering in hoping to see some sign of life, so far just one tiny water boatmen type insect!  :D
