Clematis duchess of Edinburgh

amberspyamberspy Posts: 379
I planted this couple years ago it’s was just a cheap supermarket 9cm pot plant and I had space to fill at time
but I couldn’t remember what it was 🙈But today I cleared big cupboard out and found my old plant labels
So it tells me it’s duchess Edinburgh
as it’s only been in garden two years it’s still small but seems be growing well
do I need to prune it it’s never flowered and does it have be used as a climber

I had that one @amberspy, and it was very disappointing. After the first year or two, and very few flowers, it did nothing much, despite being a good specimen. Richard Hodson said it  can be like that - green growth and not particularly floriferous.
I stuck it in a border where it could carry on growing, but it never really performed. I chucked it.  :/
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Ah - yes, I noticed they no longer had it. Bit difficult just now unfortunately, with plant stocks.  :/
