Plant ID please

Hi all,

I bought this plant today, I was told it is a hardy perinial.

I was hoping somebody could tell me the name?

Also when I took it out of the pot the bottom half fell apart taking half the length of the roots with it.

I planted it with plenty of water, is it likely to survive?

It's a Dianthus (carnation) but not sure which cultivar - there are a lot!

Looks like a garden Pink, Dianthus Plumarius. It should do fine if you keep it watered in the first few weeks, but care is needed not to soak too close to the base where all the low leaves are or they may rot.

Many thanks for your reply. Yes luckily that is one mistake I didn't make. I really hope it lasts. I think we are due some showers over the next couple of days too. Any suggestions on what feed to give it?

When I used to grow them I never fed them. They just need decent drainage, but other than that leave them to grow. Others might have a different opinion.
