Chaenomeles - cutting back for fruit?

Should I be cutting back these red shoots on a Chaenomeles shrub in order to get it to bear more fruit?  Any advice welcome please and thanks!

Yes, cut the new growth back now to about 5 new leaves which will encourage more flowers next year.  It would have been better to do it in early May, but doing it now should still have a positive effect.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
