Moving a Philadelphus

peteSpeteS Posts: 625
I need to dig up a Philadelphus "Belle Etoile". It's been in the ground for about 8 years, it's in bud at the moment, so I don't mind letting it flower first. A friend will take it, but will it transplant successfully with a mid summer move, or will it be better just binning it. Same question regarding a fern, no idea which type, but it has a height of about 5.5 feet, and has been in the ground for about 12 years.

It will be hard ..especially with ground so dry.
It will be heavy and very hard work to dig it up with a decent root ball.
Neither may survive such a drastic move in mid summer
    But worth a go.
    Perthshire. SCOTLAND .

Cheers Silver surfer. I'll have to just give it a go, but I'm not terribly hopeful.
