Tree to grow in pot on patio

Hi I am currently looking for a tree that I can grown in a pot on my patio behind a bench ro fill a void, so would like it to reach approx 2 metres but not to wide. I have looked on line at fig but they look wide, also looked at apple but they recommend two for pollination. Any advise would great, thanks. Lyndsay

Lots of trees you can pick from of the dwarf variety.  All depends on the conditions.  Not all apples need companions for pollination and you can get many dwarf varieties.  How big a pot you have will also impact what tree you go for.  Acer's are lovely in a pot if your spot isn't windy.

Concorde pears will self pollinate and they can be grown in pots if they are on the Quince C rootstock.  you'll need a pretty big pot though.

I would go for a bamboo.

They do very well in pots. Tall and slim. Evergreeen.

By the way, you are going to need a big pot. At least 70 litres. Otherwise you are going to be watering it three times a day in hot weather and in windy weather it will blow over.
Apophthegm -  a big word for a small thought.
If you live in Derbyshire, as I do.

i'd go with the FIG if you fancy that.  they are really easily shaped into whatever you want.   and fast growing, nice 'tropical/jungle/exotic' type leaf.    mix up with Fatsia Japonica shrub ( fine in a pot also) and perhaps a bamboo in a rather large pot.
  • Thanks for all your tips, I will look on the website suggested and yes fig does also appeal.
