Could it be a weed?

Hi does anyone know what this could be? Its grown in a pot which had a lily planted in it. Could it be part of the lily or is it a weed? not sure whether I should pull it up or not?

Thankyou x

    Peony.  Lovely!
  • Ohh really, thankyou for your help! We have no idea how that got in there. We may have to re pot it, hope it will be ok. Do you know when it might flower? x

Peony don't like to be moved.  I'd leave it build energy this year and move it in autumn.  Plant it in its permanent home, crown just visible from the surface as they don't like to be planted deep.  It looks like it has been planted a bit too deep which maybe why it's  has no buds on it yet, it's a long way from flowering if it even will this year.

There are no buds, so not this year, but if you can repot or plant out in a suitable site, you may get some next year. Don't plant it any deeper than it is just now though, as that is often the reason for them failing to flower.

They can take a while to mature, and it will depend on the variety and your conditions too.  :)

I take it the lily never reappeared though!
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thankyou for your help! we will leave it in the pot for the time being and then re pot it in the autumn. Hopefully it will be ok! Thanks again 😁 x
