What type of palm did I buy?

MikeIpMikeIp Posts: 12
Hi

I recently purchased a palm but it didn't come with a label and the garden centre staff weren't sure either. I've tried searching online but most of the palms I have found have fibrous trunks and this one has a solid bark so I'd be grateful for any help identifying it.

Thanks

I’m no expert on palms ... but I’ve a feeling that’s not a palm but a Cordyline ... I may be barking up the wrong tree tho 🤣

@Hostafan1 you know about such things ... am I right or am I wrong ... ?

@Dovefromabove you are , as is invariably the case, correct .
Cordyline Australis, " Cabbage Palm" although neither related to cabbages, not is it a palm.
Actually related to asparagus of all things.
They grow like weeds in the West Country, but some folk love them.

    Phew! 😇

Thank you @Hostafan1 ... I have grown cordylines but I’ve never grown a palm.

Many thanks to you both for the quick answer. Not sure I'm quite so happy about buying the weed of the West country though! :)

They're VERY popular, but I'm not a fan. I rarely find they make attractive specimens.
