best shrub for bulbous pot?

I have inherited a terracotta bulbous container - 2 feet high and 12inches in diameter. Its a splendid specimen and I would like to put shrub to put in it - any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks

Have a look at some of the smaller growing Nandina cultivars .

Bear in mind that whatever you choose, you won't be able to remove it for repotting without damaging the plant or the pot.
You need to plant something short-lived or very slow-growing
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Monty recycles his best containers with bulb assortments for displays.

You could put a shrub in it for a couple of years, and then plant them out, before they damage the pot.

If you really value the pot, over winter it.

I find it best to put the plant in a plastic pot which will just lodge unseen inside any ‘bulbous’ shaped pot ... planting directly into the pot means that when the time comes to remove the plant, refresh the compost etc (every one or two years at the most), it can be nigh on impossible to do without cracking the pot.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
