Gollum plant stem rotting & leaves falling off

I have a gollum succulent (crassula ovata i think?) which I split into two different plants a few weeks ago - for a few months now I think, the stem has been getting cracks on it & I didn't think much of it although I was planning on asking around forums about it (tho i didn't get the chance to do it in the end)
In the past week or so, its leaves have been falling off with the slightest touch (I only touched it after I noticed they'd fallen off by themselves) and I think a day or two ago, I noticed a section of the stem looking quite frail? So I pulled it off & noticed it'd rotted inside - just this morning I pulled off another rotten stem bit
Can I save this plant & is there anything I can do salvage it? I'm not sure if the whole plant (as well as the separate one which hasn't shown such signs yet) is affected but should I change how I water, etc?
(I've planted them in a perlite mixed soil & water them once the top inch or two of the soil dries up)

When you say you divided the plant into two could you tell us how you went about that please? The cracking pattern on the stem is normal and eventually it will start to look almost like wood as the plant matures. The plants looks pretty healthy though so the problems you're seeing may just be due to the stress of repotting the plan and it using up some of its stored resources to make new roots.
Tradition is just peer pressure from dead people

I cleaned off all the soil I could & carefully separated the two separate root systems as when I got the plant, I noticed it was two different ones planted together
It's good to hear the cracking is normal though, thank you for letting me know :)
