Can you name this plant

I wonder if you can help me, I had a rose in the garden and the plant pictured below started growing from the same plant and the rose died off and this grew in its place. I heard it could be Rosa multiflora but I am still learning and cannot identify, many thanks

I'm no rose expert but that looks like a wild rose to me - rosa multiflora as you say, or maybe spinosissima
Whatever it is, it must've been used as rootstock for your original variety.
Very pretty (not a fan of cultivated roses, but wild ones have their place) but vigorous to  say the least - I've seen them grow 20 feet up a tree!

Edit: I think spinosissima might be pricklier (just looked it up)
  • Thank you very much, as that makes sense to me now, I  have also learnt what rootstock is. As I say I am novice and wanting to learn more and have just subscribed.

It has shown rapid growth, and we have cut it back, but as you say it is very pretty.
