Lupin stems falling down

All the bottom stems on the lupins seem to be falling down. They are all lying flat on the ground.

Could this because of the aphids on the plant? Grey aphids.

Otherwise flowering and looking well.

We are experiencing extreme weather conditions at the moment. Wind, no rain and hot temperatures for May.I would be tempted to try and tie them in before the pests descend upon them or cut them so the plant has air circulating.

I had a lupin flower spike go over yesterday in what I thought was the most sheltered spot, whilst thise most exposed to the wind stayed upright...🤷🏻‍♂️

They do that. Nothing to worry about.
Don't overfeed them either - just creates soft, sappy growth, more susceptible to weather.
Ideally, you'd have other planting to support them

Thanks so much! Do you recommend chopping them off? The fallen stems have stayed alive like this for a couple of weeks.

I'd leave them unless there's a problem, but if you can get a support in, it'll prevent them rotting on the ground.
Ideally, you'd put one in sooner if there's no surrounding plants to keep them upright.

I’d leave then, it’s just the dry weather. Don’t feed, they thrive on unfed soil.
