Hoheria Sexstlosa

I have a Hoheria planted in a large container which has never seemed happy. It often drops leaves and looks sparse. I have tried increasing watering which seems to stop leaf drop but it never seems to attain glossy leaves and has never flowered in the 2 years I have owned it.
Any help would be appreciated
