Echinops? Asparagus?

Hi all,

I planted echinops, 1 in a container and 1 in the garden. This is what has come up in the garden, and it was the same in the container (before it died).

Is this what echinops look like initially, because to me it looks like an asparagus??
And a stalk that has grown more..

I'm a clueless beginner gardener! Thanks :)

Well it's definitely not echinops! Asparagus possibly - if it is those new shoots will open up into ferny foliage which I find quite attractive.

Seems to be a lot around this year. That is definitely asparagus.  The first one you could eat. The second photo, leave them , they will form ferny looking leaves.
  • Thank you both! I would have assumed it was already in the garden, but the thing I planted in the container was the same. Guess somebody mixed up their packages..

This is a shoot of echinops (pls ignore the general messiness)
