Drooping Alliums - Graceful Beauty

I planted allium graceful beauty bulbs last October, and they grew fine until they started to droop last week.

The flowers have not opened yet, but the stems are falling over on most of them.

They're planted in amongst much larger alliums - Christophii which are ok.

The soil seems moist, so I'm not concerned about water.

Any thoughts on what else may be causing this would be appreciated.

The attached photo shows them flower stems fallen to the ground. The large leaves are from the other larger alliums.

Have you checked for slug/snail damge towards the base of the flower stem?
The soil may feel moist but with so many weeks without water many plants are suffering from drought.

They look a bit weak. I would imagine they want to be grown in rather dry soil in full sun, and are likely better planted en masse.
  • Thanks for the advice.  No sign of any slug damage.  Have a moisture reader and it says the soil is moist and it's a very sunny south facing bed. Perhaps if it were drier they would be happier. They're still growing and flowers look set to open now even though they're lying on the ground.
