Mould/fungus/eggs?? Top of soil

Hi, hoping someone may be able to help me. I am growing tomato plants and chilli plants and noticed some of them have small orangey green spores on top. They do not have roots. Any idea what they are and whether these are harmful or not?

    Welcome to the forum @SpecEm
Those are one of the myriad of natural fungi present in the soil and are breaking down the woody matter in the compost into a form that plants can use, so are actually beneficial. :)

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Thank you! Very new to all this but absolutely loving learning about gardening. I just need to make sure I don't end up over loving my plants!

Not sure that's possible! If you do, you certainly won't be on your own ;)
