Ceanothus hasn't flowered for 5 years

When I purchased this plant it was covered in little blue flowers but that was 5 years ago and it hasn't flowered since. Does any one know why that could be happening? It is in a large pot, could that be the problem, does it need to be in the ground? I do feed it with a natural seaweed and apart from the lack of flowers it is a very healthy plant with lots of new growth.

  • Is it deciduous or evergreen? Is it getting enough sun? It wants full sun, free-draining soil and a sheltered spot. Are you pruning it?

Mines in a large pot and does well, but it didn't for a couple of years when I tried it in clay soil and then in a pot that likely wasn't big enough and without enough sun. I put it in a large pot, mixed some manure with compost, put it in a sheltered sunny spot and it improved a lot putting out lots of flowers.

Silly question perhaps: have you pruned it ? if so when?

I feed all my flowering plants with tomato food or rose food.  Both contain a higher potash content which stimulates flowers/fruit.
