Rasberries in containers.... when to divide/thin out

Hi, new to forum so please excuse my inexperience(ignorance even!!).
I wonder if anyone could help ?? ......Having bought some raspberry canes a little too late and not really expecting too much from this year, I put about 7 in a largeish pot and all of them have started to grow shoots(?). It is now obvious the pot isn't going to be big enough as they grow up. So ...After all this ramble my question is can i transfer some to other pots in order to thin out and give them all a better life??
