I’ve laurels in front garden growing great they formed as hedge for more privacy in garden we a bit of space in front of them as I don’t let them grow bushy front ways is anything I can grow in summer to add colour and lowish height
Sun or shade? And how wide is the space? The laurels will be taking a lot of water and nutrients out of the soil so nothing much will thrive up close to them.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

It’s gets lots of sun ☀️ about 1 metre or bit more after the laurel
You have lots of choice then! What kind of look do you want? Small evergreen shrubs? Herbaceous flowers? Any particular style or colours that you like? How much maintenance do you want to do? Something with silver or light variegated foliage might look good against the green of the laurel. I have mostly whites and silvers in front of this section of privet hedge.
