Spring onions, leeks, or neither?

Hello!!

Please can someone advise me of what these are? I originally thought they were only chives, but I saw leeks in the garden centre and they’re very similar. When I dug one out it looked (and tasted) like a spring onion. There’s loads of things on this garden and I have no idea what’s what! Thanks 😊

If they taste/smell onionie, then they are.  If they have leaves like onions or chives and there is no smell, then they aren't (onions or garlic).  Leeks have  leaves like blades, not round (and long) like onions and chives.   If in doubt, take a bunch to the garden centre.  They are there to help.

A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

tuikowhai34 young leeks do look round until their leaves broaden out.   Purely visually, I wouldn't be surprised if those aren't leeks.

My money was on spring onions from the picture. Then read you pulled some and they looked and tasted like spring onions.. ..so, spring onions. Even if it is an old nursery bed, not sure why anyone would put leeks in so close together.
