Rhododendron

Hi I’ve ordered a rhododendron online and it arrived about a week and half ago. It was brown  (which it’s meant to be an evergreen) and so I think it’s dead. It hasn’t changed at all. Any ideas on whats happening with it? It has like 4 leaves on it but that’s it.

Looks fine to me, just coming out of dormancy with plenty of new buds.

A bit late for a Rhodedendron to be coming out of dormancy, it should be flowering now.
It is not well, ask for a refund.
How can you lie there and think of England

  • Oh I didn’t know they were dormant. I thought they were evergreen. Yes I thought it was late as they’re meant to flower from early spring and this hasn’t been got any leaves on it. But thanks both!

I'd agree with @punkdoc. There are very few green healthy stems too.
It barely even looks like a rhodo.
What variety is it supposed to be @GardenStudent ?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I’m starting to worry about it now. On the website it’s called “rhododendron impeditum album- dwarf white “.

It shouldn't look like that. Take photos and send them to the company you got it from.
    Request a refund.

It would have been called an azalea in the past but they are also rhododendrons.  I agree that it isn't in very good condition although there are some signs of life. It may have suffered in transit but those dead buds look like they have been there for a while. Ask for a replacement.

I’d keep it and try to nurse it back to life, but I’d be expecting a replacement to be sent out in better health.

Rhododendron impeditum ..is a very slow growing, evergreen shrub with tiny deep purple flowers.
Never come across  Rhododendron impeditum  album.

That plant is not as described. It is not healthy.
Good luck with refund or new plant.
