Gaura!

Need some help with gaura, 2 years ago I bought some plants which flowered well when I put them in. The next year I cut them to grown level and then in spring nothing happened, like I’d killed the plant.

Last year I bought some more, planted in a different spot in the garden and again flowered beautifully, I left the stems on and didn’t cut them back, they have now started growing again and all seems well, my question is, once they have flowered am I supposed to be cutting these back or do I leave them as they are?

Just give it a tidy. Mine was in the ground all winter and looked dead then suddenly new growth appeared and doing really well.
