Hi, can anyone identify the tree which has quite happily grown in my garden? 12+ft high, lots of these soft green catkin/spike things all over it. Thanks.
Goat willow (Salix caprea) and those are the seed pods which will produce thousands of fluffy seeds which will blow everywhere if you let them. Personally, I would remove it and plant something else like a fruit tree unless is has some ornamental value in your particular garden. Most folk consider it a 'weed' tree in their garden, along with sycamore and ash.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
