Thuja brown spot?

Hi guys,

My tree had an offshoot/ branch that had a break in it after the strong wind earlier this year. The crack got worse and it's now broken off. I've pulled it away and its left and awful brown patch where the other branches had no light behind it. 

Question is what can be done now? Will the brown regrow at all?

What do you guys think?

If l hadn't seen the photo l might have said that it is possible for new growth on thuja, but looking at that, it does seem pretty drastic. Raise the canopy perhaps?
