Rhubarb in a pot?

CopperdogCopperdog Posts: 547
I have two rhubarb plants plants on the heavy shady side Of the garden and are failing terribly. I only realised recently they need to be in full sun.... I don’t have room in the sunny bed - would they thrive well if I put them in a large pot with lots of new compost in the sun? Or would you say rhubarb in pots is a mistake? Thankyou

I think rhubarb is never going to be happy and do well in a pot. It wants to grow into a huge plant.

But it doesn’t need full sun ... mine gets sun from dawn until lunchtime then when the sun goes over the house it’s in shade for the rest of the day ...

They're deep-rooted, I can't them thriving in pots.  I've never heard of them needing full sun.  My rhubarb patch is in front of a north-facing wall and very productive!

Thankyou @Dovefromabove and @josusa47. I appreciate your photo too Dove. Think I’ll have to dig them up and move them forward to at least capture that morning sun. Thankyou both again xx
