    can anyone help me with what this is   it is covering a friends garden , spreading via rhizomes

    Looks like 'Fox and cubs' (Pilosella aurantiaca):
    A very pretty weed/wildflower but can be very invasive as your friend has found.

    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

    I suspect it might be the horrible creeping sowthistle my son has been battling for years... the previous owners of the house covered it with groundcover fabric and gravel, but it's found its way out again...
    Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

    thankyou liriodendron it does have similarities but I don't think it is. this apparently doesn't grow that high and it flowers  purple
