Large Ceanothus - pruning recommendations please.

AuntyRachAuntyRach Posts: 4,994
This large Ceanothus (? Blue Skies) has gradually spread forward and upwards over the years. The right side (as you view) was damaged in a storm last year and received a chop. I am wondering whether to prune in, ‘crown lift’ and/or chop the top. I have a large Lavender underneath which is being squashed a bit now. Any experience with pruning these gratefully received. (South facing, near the house wall so dry but mulched).

My garden and I live in South Wales.

That is beautiful! I would prune back the bare branch at the bottom right and maybe the branches at the top coming out from the main bulk. I would sacrifice the lavender which would be cheap to replace with a new one further away from the ceanothus.
