Raising level around conifer

Hi all,

first post here so hello one and all.

I’m in the stages of beginning to tackle our garden and our first job is to install a patio area at the back.

At the back we have a large conifer which is on the fence line - we are planning on having a raised edge which wound include this conifer. Will the additional soil, around 1ft, harm it? I know this is the case with most trees but conifers seem almost indestructible most of the time thought it would be worth asking as it would be a better finish if I could.

If so it’s not an issue I’ll give it the breathing space it needs.

Thanks in advance.

I don’t think any trees like to be buried even conifers

Afraid you’re right ... raising the soil level will rot the trunk and kill it.

No worries, I’ll create a dry well around the base!
