Summer and winter flowering couple perennials

Hi all,

can you recommend two plants which go hand in hand as shrubs (for a really large rectangle pot). Both being perennials and one flowers in the summer and the other in the winter?

How big is the pot and will it be in sun or shade?

Roughly 3 ft by 1 ft. 

I have three of them - one will be in shade most of the time. Other two will get evening sunlight for about 2 hrs

Those pots are very shallow for shrubs.
It also sounds as though they don't get enough sunlight.

Goodness..that is cruelty to plants.
All want to grow taller and cannot.
I cannot think of any evergreen shrubs that would be happy to stay at about 25cm tall.
That is not a pot it is a prison!

How would you like to live in a dolls house where the ceilings are so low you can never stand up and have to crawl along on hands and knees.

Maybe I used the wrong word - shrubs. What small plants can I put in this pot. Btw it has a height of roughly 1 ft. 

The one picture I have attached is part shade 1 he in the morning. I have two more which get 2-3 hours in the evening sun.

Your plants are taller than the planter...growing towards the light.

Primula auricula ...are evergreen and very special. Collectable.

Would you consider a variety of ferns for the one in shade - they would be happy there.
Geranium Phaeum is perennial and happy in the shade, but you'll only get flowers for a few weeks. Of course there's always ivy for the shade too which you could grow up an obelisk of some sort to add height.

For the other 2 I'm sure some small perennials could work

Fire

Not flowering, but something like Adiantum venustum  can look lovely in shade. Fuchsias and begonias do well in shade - choose types that do well in hanging baskets. Begonias can return each year if the weather doesn't ge too cold. Wild strawberries are also happy in shade, and hellebores.
