peaony

I have a peaony which appears to be reluctant to bloom. The flowers are there and well formed. Looking just on the verge of opening but something is stopping them. This happened a bit last year and I was so disappointed. Can anyone help.

Sounds very strange. Peonies can sulk for many reasons and not make any buds...but to have buds and for them not to open it has to be moisture deficiency or maybe lack of enough sunshine? Can you post any pictures of the buds and the plant as a whole to help us out?

Give it a bucket of water with a teaspoon of Phostrogen or miracle grow in. It may be too dry.  It will never flower well in a shady place.

I had that problem last year. if the water/fertiliser doesn't do the trick, try very gently partially peeling off the outer green layer with your fingernail.

  • I have fed them and watered. May try the peeling trick if that doesn't work. If all else fails I can always clear a space in the border, kneel down and just pray.
