Growing Aspargus

Hi as a novice I just need some guidance on damage to 1st year ( planted this year) Asparagus spears that got damaged when just emerging. 
Will new spears appear from these crowns or is that it for this season, or will the crown just not produce anymore.

    If you cut the damaged spears off just below ground as though you were harvesting them, they should continue to produce for a while yet.  Don't harvest any shoots which emerge this year and let them grow into ferns so the crown can build-up in size.  How did they get damaged?

    Bob, many thanks for the advice, in short it was me who caused the damage. 
    I have a newly acquired allotment and in the April dry spell I was lightly watering and the hose dragged across the top two new spears.
    self inflicted really.
    i will follow the advice and monitor.
