What is this succulent?

Have 2 of these and I've looked at a load of sites to try and identify this but not finding anything at all that looks a good match for what appears to be fairly unique. The leaves only seem to grow on the one axis.

Sods law after posting this I think I may have found the answer after googling 'spiky aloe'.

Is it fair to say this is probably Aloe Ferox?

edit: or Aloe Marlothii even?

While we're at it, this is another odd one I've been struggling to identify-

It looks like A. marlothii to me, although there are several similar species.

"When not in flower, it is easily confused with the closely related Zimbabwe Aloe, and with the similar-looking Cape Aloe and African Aloe species to the south"

It is a cristate form of something, an example of fasciation. Identification of the species could be difficult for an abnormal plant like that.

So it is actually genuinely abnormal?

Would explain why I've struggled.
