Hydrangea perniculata slug problem

Hi, all of the new shoots on my hydrangea perniculata limelight have been eaten away by slugs, will it be able to 're shoot from the same buds or is it the end of the line for my poor plant?

  • Can you show us in picture form how bad is the damage? It depends a lot on the size of the plant, more established ones tend to power through such incidents while small ones sulk much more.

It will shoot again, but the slugs will eat them, too, so you need to protect it.
  • Thanks Posy, any ideas? We have a hedgehog but he's not doing a great job!
  • Thanks George. It's quite a new planr, but good framework of stems. I cut quite short this year to promote new growth but am now regretting it :-(
