It's not something I've ever tried, but you could try a decent length of a shoot, pinch the top out (to stop flowers forming), pop it in a glass of water and see if roots appear. I was thinking of busy-lizzie that also has soft watery stems and how easy they are to root in water
Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
