    Looks like a tree sapling or sucker. What's nearby?
    In London. Keen but lazy.

    Beech hedge, i suspect it is the beech. The leaves match.

    Not beech, might it be some sort of "flowering cherry"?

    It looks just like the suckers that our purple-leafed plum sends up from the roots (sometimes quite a distance from the tree).

    Sorry ANM25......but definitely not Beech.
    Beech leaves are very different in shape.
