Newbie, veg and a small greenhouse.

Hi all
You have probably read many newbie Q's similar to this but I can't find precisely what I need. I am very much a newbie when it comes to growing anything, but especially veg. I have a small plastic greenhouse that I would like to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce etc and some herbs. I have nowhere to plant out to so everything will have to stay in greenhouse. I would welcome any tips or pointers to videos etc that could help. It's mid April now and we are in the middle of the Lockdown so I can't get out to any garden centres. Tips on who is still working and can deliver anything I might need also welcome.
I really don't mind you talking to me like you would a child, I really don't know anything. 😁

All help greatly appreciated and please stay safe.

    Welcome to the forum Ray.

There is a thread discussing places that are still delivering here:

You will want to start off tomatoes indoors, if the plastic greenhouse is outdoors, it will still be too cold at night for tomatoes, you will though want to get going with them before the end of April if possible.

Any other specific advice, start a new thread and you will get lots of help.

Hi @acorna - we also have a seed swap thread, so if you have no seed, you can get some on there.
Lettuce will grow outdoors, so you can do that in a pot - no need for a greenhouse with those. Many herbs are the same, but some might need protection in winter, although you might be ok where you are to leave them outside.
The plastic greenhouses are a bit trickier, because the temperature fluctuation is huge in them. The smaller they  are, the bigger the problem. As long as you can ventilate them well on warm days, and close them up before temps drop at night, its perfectly possible to grow successfully. The little cherry types are ideal for a small g'house too   :)
I'll see if I can find the swap thread for you and put a link on

This should help - just post and ask for what you'd like  :)

Part of my problem is I only have the greenhouse to grow anything in. There is nowhere else to put pots etc. This is partly why I need help. If I can't grow it in the greenhouse then I'll have to go without. It's not a problem I just need the knowledge. Thanks anyway Fairygirl. PS  my wife and grandaughter are also fairy girls We have fairies everywhere. 😁

Ah - no problem. Just pick herbs which will be fine undercover. The Mediterranean ones like basil and thyme etc.
Lettuce doesn't do so well in heat though, so if you can find a cooler place for that, it'll help -  a cool room perhaps? Lettuce bolts in heat, which you don't want.

Us fairies are everywhere indeed  ;)
