Allium leaves

 In photos of alliums they stand proud without their strappy growth underneath. Can I cut the leaves off? They cover the other plants growing through and look messy, or should I wait till the leaves have faded?

Wait until the leaves have died back as that is how energy gets to the bulb for the flower next year
