Cherry blossom tree advice needed

I have a cherry blossom tree I was going to prune in next couple of weeks once the blossom has gone as it has several dead branches. Looking at the some the branches they have a silver fungus on them. Is this some type of disease or just something that grows on the dead parts. The tree had lots of blossom on it this spring so assume it is generally in good health.
