Chitting seed potatoes

My first and second earlies have only just arrived, do I really need chit before planting?

    Hello @hardysw and welcome 😊 

    The reason for chitting is to get the potato plant growing before it can be planted due to cold weather/frosts etc. 

    But yes, you can plant now without chitting as by the time the leaves are above ground the worst of the cold weather and frosts will be over ... and if there is a little frost you can earth them up.
