Brassica (I think).

Hi folks,

Amateur here so please forgive any ignorance! I planted this last July I think, next to brocolli and forgot to label it! I know, I know! But I was wondering if anyone with more knowledge could identify it? And also if it has sprouted. (Is that the phrase?) Again apologies. Essentially I'd like to know if we can eat it?

Obliged in advance to anyone giving this time!

I think it’s a cabbage or similar but it’s bolted and run to seed ... possibly been a bit stressed at some stage ... you could shred some of the younger leaves and the flowers and use in a stirfry ... but otherwise it’s over.

  • Thanks dove from above. Should I uproot you think? Can I harvest the seed to replant and try again? Anyone know how to do that?

Well, it’ll be a long time before the flowers open and set seed and the seeds ripen (‘run to seed’ is a term describing the process) and while you wait you can’t plant anything else there ... I wouldn’t bother ... if you need seeds have a look here https://forum.gardenersworld.com/discussion/1035231/seed-and-plant-swap-2020#latest
