ID A Tree and advice please

Hi I have a tree in my garden which has overgrown its location.  I am hoping to identify the tree and find out if there are measures I can take to trim, top or otherwise reduce its size back to in scale with the location?

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated

my guess is one of the many Lawson's Cypress hybrids.
IMHO , they don't take well to being pruned / re shaped once they get to that size, unless it's just a very light trim.

Hello, welcome to the forum  :)
As Hostafan1 says, very few conifers respond well to cutting back, they don't produce new green growth and you're just left looking at brown bits
Would you consider removing it altogether and creating a new planting opportunity?

    Pardon my manners @mark.flanagan2
    Welcome to the Forum.
I agree with @AnniD, I'd have it out and plant something nicer there, but wait until any birds have finished nesting in there.

  • Thanks AnniD and Hostafan, I think taking it out and having a fresh start in the are is what I will do.  It does hide my garden shed so I do like its blockage but it is far too big now.
