Anyone know what this is...

Hi all,

We have five of these little shrubs growing between our drive and next doors. There's a gap and I want to get another but I can't work out what they are. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Rich

  • Maybe a Hebe? There are lots of varieties though so if/when it flowers you may get a better idea - the RHS is a good searchable database of plants.

    Hope that helps.

It could be Ilex Crenata, Japanese Holly.

Has it flowered this year? Looks a bit like a Chaenomeles (Japanese quince).

It looks like box to me. Possibly Buxus "suffruticosa" which is the dwarf varkety often used for low hedges.

On closer inspection, I don't think it's Chaenomeles at all.
  • Morning all, thanks for the replies. I'm pretty sure it's a Japanese Holly though I don't recall flowers or berries last year. We've only been in the house since last June so it's possible we just didn't notice or we missed them. They are tiny but from what I've read they're very slow growing.

    Will do some further research.

    Thanks!
