Patio plant help please

Hello -

I have gaps in the patio and was wondering if I should fill them or instead have plants (any recommendations on plants if so?)? 

What would you advice be gratefully appreciated as I am very new to gardening!

If the area is well-drained and gets a lot of sun then creeping thyme works well.  You can mix the tiny seeds with a mixture of dry sand/grit and dry compost and sprinkle it down the gaps, watering when done.  With luck, you will end-up with something like this:
