Munstead or Hidecote lavender

Hi, I would really appreciate some advice as I'm a complete novice to gardening. I'd like to create a lavender hedge at the bottom of the garden but not sure which variety is best. I've narrowed it down to the two above but would appreciate any advice please. Also as the garden slopes slightly down would it be best to mix some grit into the soil when planting to increase drainage?

    I would think again.  The lavender would be fine at the top of the slope but really won't enjoy winter or spring in cold wet soil at the bottom of a slope and you'd need a great deal of gravel or a raised bed to make it happy there.

    Is the hedge to mark your boundary, give perfume, screen something?

    I love the look of it but it's not to mark a boundary or hide anything but would want something with a nice scent.

    Where are you, roughly?  What kind of soil do you have and are you sheltered or exposed?

    There are many plants that will provide perfume and may be better suited than lavender.

    Both hidcote and munstead are smallish in size. Hidcote has dark purple flowers and munstead slightly lighter blue.

    I don’t think that either of them is too suitable for a hedge because of their compact size. I would go for taller and more bushier intermedia varities. A good place to look at is Downderry Specialist Nursery in kent. Just google them and check out the info on their website.
