Tree position

Hi, We bought a small variety of Acacia (not certain of exact one) around 6 years ago and planted it in our small garden. The trunk stands 4 feet from our house. We've kept it trimmed to around 10 feet. As it matures still furhter shouldI be concerned about the roots in proximity to the house?

kind regards

You should try to find out the type. Acacia Dealbata is a popular one in the UK because it is reliably more hardier, however it does have an eventual of around 10 meters. I personally would not plant one that close. They can create dense shade. I have seen huge specimens in people's front gardens, but usually around 10-12 ft from the front wall.
  • Thanks for the reply. I've kept it small but wondered about the roots?

I cannot comment on that as I have not had trees close to my previous properties. Others may offer their experience. Keeping trees small by pruning is one option. That may slow their growth, but over time, some tree roots will still extend.
