Hello!

Very grateful of someone could tell me what type of bush this is?

Also, I don’t know if you can see, but on the first photo some of the new growth is black and crispy... is there something wrong with it?

    It's a Griselinia Littoralis shrub. The blackened tips are late frost damage and will not really affect the rest of your shrub. Once the season goes on, the shrub will grow more leaves.

    Brilliant, thank you, @Borderline. 

    I also have a tree in my garden that I’m convinced is the same thing as this hedge. 

    Can you shed any light?

    Yes, they are the same. Can be left to grow tall like a tree and as you can see, responds very well to being pruned.
