Thin beech hedge help

Hi

I have a beech hedge that's about 4 years old. The issue is that it's very thin and sparse. It hasn't thickened up at all. I am a complete novice at gardening and have no clue what to do.

My wife wants it ripped out if it's not going to thicken but I quite like the idea of having a nice hedge.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

I'd remove the gravel and give it a good mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost and keep it well watered throughout the summer

  • Thank you. My neighbour mentioned about cutting the hedge down in size. But I wasn't sure if I had to take a bit off with clippers or literally cut it in half. As I said I am completely new to this lol
