What to plant against a north facing wall?

Hi Folks
I have a small bed below my dining room window beside the front door of my home. It gets some sunshine in the late afternoon from mid Mar to mid Sep.
I was thinking of planting a slow growing Sarcococca for winter fragrance.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
