Discovered this in my daughter's garden. It is very fragrant.
I'd like to know what it is as I fancy taking a cutting or 2

I think it is Compact Laurel or to give it it's grand name "Prunus laurocerasus 'Otto Luyken"

Agree with Alan..Skimmia sp or named cultivar.
eg Skimmia japonica fragrans...male flowers therefore no red berries.

The flowers of Prunus  laurocerasus Otto Lukken are very different.

Looks looks like Skimmia to me to, mine has just flowered and it is very fragrant.

A small word of warning @owd potter- check that your soil is suitable. Skimmias are a bit like Rhodies/Azaleas etc. They don't like alkaline soil - neutral to acidic is the ideal 
A bit of shade is also the best situation for them.
