Herbs sown in MP compost

Good morning everyone!   I’ve ordered some herb seeds to sow but I’ve just discovered I’ve only got a small amount of seed compost left.   I’ve bought oregano, basil, parsley, chives, thyme and mint.  Will any of these germinate in MP or should I try and source seed compost.  I’m finding it a problem getting it online 😕. Not the end of the world I know.   Thanks in advance 👍

    MP is fine  :)
At this time of year, the extra nutrition isn't really a problem. It's more of a problem if sowing stuff in autumn, as you don't want loads of extra, soft growth over winter.

I always use coir for sowing seeds, it's light and clean to handle, and free from weed seeds.  I add a drop of liquid seaweed to the soaking water.  As far as I know, both are readily available on line.  I buy mine from the Organic Gardening Catalogue.
  • @Fairygirl and @josusa47. Thank you so much.  I’ll see if I can get coir online otherwise I’ll use MP.  Will it be better if I sieved it as I understand some of the seeds are very fine. Thank you
  • I use MP compost for everything these days. The herbs do just fine.
  • @Singing Gardener. Thank you very much 👍

I start mine off in sieved, used compost from last years peppers and aubergine pots, been in the greenhouse all winter so I just water and leave, weed and sow.

Thank you @herbaceous.  I’ve got plenty of that.  Do you add any Fish blood and bone?

Not for seeds @Allyblueeyes but a sprinkle when they first get moved up to their own pot then a mix of garden compost and MPC.

Have the same problem. I thought I might try mostly filling with MPC and then putting a shallow layer of seed compost at the top for sowing. I usually sow direct in pots.
